Keeping Up

I’m finding the most difficult part of my Daily Sketch Challenge is not the sketching part, but the actual photographing of the sketches and then making/finding the time to blog about them. The blogging part has always been a challenge for me (as evidenced by the sporadic timing of all my previous posts! LOL), but challenging as it is, it is something that I really want to do, more as a record for myself than anything else, and so, I am going to do my best to keep up with these posts on as much of a weekly basis as I can … though I am sure there will be times during the upcoming year that life will take priority and I will miss some weeks here and there.

I have been musing a lot lately about the nature of existence and evolution and about animals and Mother Earth and myth and it’s all been jumbling and weaving together sort of nonsensically inside my head.  It’s that time of year, with spring just around the corner … a time of Rebirth … a time to withdraw and even fast from the things in life that do not best serve us … perhaps a time to sacrifice … to prepare … for Ostara, for Easter, for growth and renewal. I dunno … just musings that I wanted to capture that perhaps … maybe … someday … might coalesce on the paper into something more concrete and meaningful than this vague little sketch. 🙂

More musings along the same line. Visions of bunny rabbits and hares and curly trees and moons dancing in my head! LOL

My hands had been a bit sore all week but really started to get sore and stiff on Valentine’s Day, and since I had to work Paint Nite that evening, I tried not to stress them too much so just did a very quick and easy sketch in watercolour.

Unfortunately though by the next day, I was in full flare mode, with my hands so painful and swollen that I couldn’t even hold a pencil or brush, much less use one 🙁 And so, I had a day of complete rest and pampering (along with lots of parrafin baths and heavy duty pain meds) and didn’t get any sketching at all done on Monday. 🙁

My RA has been in very good control over the past year and I’ve not had any bad flareups for quite some time … but, I have not been as diligent as I should have been this past month in taking my Enbrel reliably, and have also been extremely busy and have had the flu and become somewhat rundown and exhausted I think, and am sure that’s why this happened. Fortunately, the worst of it lasted only two days and with lots of TLC, the swelling and pain is now much reduced and I should hopefully be back to full use (or, as full as I ever have! LOL ) of my hands very soon. 😀

My not so attractive, swollen, red, crooked hands not quite in full flare. They ended up being about twice this swollen.

Was able to hold a brush again for a short time by late Tuesday, so just did something fairly quick and simple so as not to over-strain my hands.

As a member of my local art society, I have access to various small exhibition spaces throughout the city, and this month was my turn to exhibit at the restaurant where I do Paint Nites! LOL So for the next six weeks my small series of “Journey” paintings will be on exhibit there! Pop by and check it out if you’re in the area! 🙂

It’s been SOOOOO cold here in Canada (-40s C a couple of days!!), and also very snowy, and our daughter’s car battery died, so hero-daddy to the rescue! I waited in the car and sketched this little scene while waiting for him to get her a new battery at Costco.

And that gets me up to date for the past week with my sketches. Hope you’re staying cozy, warm and safe in this wintry weather! 🙂
