Graphite Pencil on Bristol Smooth Paper The American Crow reaches sexual maturity at about three years of age. At this time, it will find a mate and, like so many other species of birds, will remain with the same partner for its entire lifetime, which can reach 21 years in the wild. Mated pairs form large families of up to 15 individuals from several breeding seasons that remain together for many years. Offspring from a previous nesting season will usually remain with the family to assist in rearing new nestlings. American crows do not reach breeding age for at least two years, and most do not leave the nest to breed for 4-5 years. Many thanks to Colleen Wilson for the kind permission to use her beautiful photograph as inspiration for this drawing. | ||
